Hanuman Vennai Kaapu
Hanuman’s biggest weapons–his deadly mace, teeth and fist–were immobilized by his duty of ‘the live chariot’. Arrows in profusion targeted by a nefarious Ravan were entering into Hanuman’s body and causing riverine flow of blood. Although Ravan was not capable of killing Hanuman, his attack on Hanuman and consequent injuries were causing immense pain to Rama. Unable to bear the pain of injuries to Hanuman, Rama stepped up the fire-power. The entire army of both sides stopped fighting and watched the proceedings.
Rama’s anger and arrow-power were too much for Ravan to handle. He fell unconscious on the chariot and the charioteer by his presence of mind swung the vehicle away from the line of action of the fire. The entire caravan of Rama’s soldiers burst out in celebration at the sight of Ravan’s fearful retreat..
Hanuman was bleeding profusion. He was rushed to the medical camp. Rama assumed the role of the doctor. Dr. Rama immediately ordered large quantity of medicine—wholesome butter–and applied them on the body of Hanuman with overflowing affection. His injuries were gone in an instant with the healing touch of Rama’s hands. But he was enjoying the ‘butter-massage’ by Rama. Rama also wanted to massage his devotee till all signs of pain are gone. Despite Hanuman’s protests, Rama went on for a long time.
From that day onwards, the practice of butter-massage became popular. Hanuman temples across India witness such events on daily basis. Butter-ly Hanuman enjoys such massages and relieves the pains of the devotees as Rama did it for him.
